Capitol Region East Coast Greenway (ECG) Study
About the Study
The Study Team has been hard at work over the last year in refining the Preferred Alignment in each Community. We are excited to share the Draft Final Plan with everyone and welcome your feedback and comments. Review the plan below and submit comments to us by August 15, 2025!
Also, we're coming to you! Check out our schedule of community events where we plan to meet with residents in person.
The Capitol Region Council of Governments (CRCOG) has initiated a study to identify the preferred alignment of the East Coast Greenway through the last remaining 12-mile gap in the Capitol Region in Simsbury, Bloomfield, Hartford, and East Hartford. The East Coast Greenway is an off-road walking and biking route stretching 3,000 miles from Maine to Florida. In Connecticut, the East Coast Greenway consists of a 200-mile route between the Rhode Island state line at Sterling, Connecticut and the New York state line at Greenwich. In Connecticut, the completed portions of the East Coast Greenway utilize a series of trails including the Air Line Trail, the Hop River Trail, and the Farmington Canal Trail.

Study Area
This study consists of two distinct gaps in a final trail alignment. The first gap runs between the western bound of the Tunxis Avenue and Day Hill Road intersection in Bloomfield and the eastern bound of the Simmons Road and Nutmeg Lane intersection on the Charter Oak Greenway in East Harford.
The second gap is between the Farmington Canal Trail at the intersection of Route 10 and Route 315 (Tariffville Road) in Simsbury and Tariffville Connector trail between Tariffville and Bloomfield which is currently in construction and terminates at the intersection of Route 189 and Main Street.
The Capitol Region East Coast Greenway Study will result in final preferred alignment and will include conceptual design. This will allow for segments to seamlessly progress into design and construction following the conclusion of this study.
Advisory Committee
An Advisory Committee has been established for purposes of this project, consisting of city/town staff and organizations directly involved in the decision making, funding, and construction process, i.e. Town Engineers and Planners, East Coast Greenway Alliance, CTDOT, DEEP, National Park Service, and others. Agendas and minutes from these meetings are posted below.
