Safety Action Plan Introduction
CRCOG has received a USDOT Safe Streets and Roads for All (SS4A) grant to supplement the Regional Transportation Safety Plan for the CRCOG region. The new federal SS4A grant program takes steps to formalize the Safe System approach in local safety planning documents through its Comprehensive Safety Action Plan (Action Plan) requirements. The Action Plan requirements are important now, because CRCOG municipalities seeking future SS4A implementation grant funds require an Action Plan. The 8 components of an Action Plan are:
- Leadership Commitment and Goal Setting
- Planning Structure
- Safety Analysis
- Engagement and Collaboration
- Equity Considerations
- Policy and Process Changes
- Strategy and Project Selections
- Progress and Transparency
Vision Zero Workshop - January 30, 2025
Public Safety Survey
Your safety matters – and we want to hear from you! CRCOG has been awarded a USDOT Safe Streets and Roads for All (SS4A) grant to enhance our region's Regional Transportation Safety Plan. The new SS4A grant program aims to strengthen local safety planning through the Safe System approach and its Comprehensive Safety Action Plan. We’re inviting YOU to help shape the plan by sharing your feedback! Use our interactive map and survey to pinpoint safety concerns in the Capitol Region. Together, let’s make our roads safer for everyone. Take the survey.

Vision Zero Task Force
CRCOG has formed a Vision Zero Task Force to provide leadership and oversight of the development of our Regional Transportation Safety Action Plan.
CRCOG's Vision Zero goal is to reach zero fatal and serious injury roadway (and multi-use trail) crashes by 2040 with an intermediate target to reduce fatal, serious, and overall crashes by 50% by 2032.
Safe Systems Approach
The development of the safety action plan will employ the Safe System Approach concepts of as outlined in the National Roadway Safety Strategy as linked here: National Roadway Safety Strategy
CRCOG Resources
A wealth of crash data is available at the UConn Crash Repository website per this link: UConn Crash Data Repository.
