Who: The Capitol Region Council of Governments (CRCOG) is announcing its prequalified vendor list for Automated Traffic Enforcement Safety Device (ATESD) Vendors available to Capitol Region Purchasing Council (CRCP) members.
What: In 2023, Connecticut passed Public Act 23-116, a landmark law allowing municipalities to use Automated Traffic Enforcement Safety Devices (ATESDs)—specifically speed and red-light cameras—to improve public safety. Public Act 23-116 includes privacy protections, guidance on allowable locations for cameras, and annual reporting requirements to keep the focus of these programs on safety. This legislation empowers towns and cities across the state to implement technology-driven solutions to address road safety concerns.
Why: The goal is to enhance public safety, change driver behavior, and save lives in high-risk areas like school zones and at intersections with a history of crashes. With the implementation of this law, local governments can deter dangerous driving behavior.
Where: Through a competitive qualifications-based solicitation process, three vendors were selected for their ability to implement and maintain automated traffic enforcement programs for municipalities. Vendors will remain on the list from May 6, 2025 to May 5, 2028, for CRCOG municipalities and CRPC members to contract with. Please contact Anaka Maher for more information. The three selected Vendors are:
